Likewise, due to the influence of different nations in the field of architecture here in the Philippines, Philippine architecture entails different flavors, like for an instance from the simple dwellings of our Filipino ancestors it evolves into a different level during the 15th century when the Spain colonized the Philippines. |
Even though the colonization of the Philippines by different countries have different sad histories, we still gain something helpful in terms of building structures.
We were able to learn the proper way of building houses with an outstanding quality that can withstand certain conditions such as heavy rainfall, strong winds, and alike.

1. YUNGIB (CAVE) Being the easiest way to dwell in, caves became the first house that our Filipino ancestors used to live in. Though caves did not serves as their permanent residence due to the need of food sources, it helps them to protect from outside elements that can possibly harm them, in which one of the main purpose of having a house. |
2. BAHAY KUBO (NIPA HUT)
Depicted as the classical and traditional Filipino house, bahay kubo is commonly made up of bamboos and palm leaves. Bahay kubo’s simplicity and easy-to-build features are one of the reason for being a mainstay house in the Philippines.
As years goes by, bahay kubo undergone several transformations, it was sometimes infused with a modern house designs making it more attractive and suitable to this modern day.

3. BAHAY NA BATO Stone and masonry construction were introduce to the Philippines during the Spanish colonial period. Though it was usually applied in public works construction, it were also applied in building houses during that time. Bahay na bato’s major components are stones, woods, and bricks, they also varies in styles depending on its owner’s preferences. Currently, most of the bahay na bato here in the Philippines can be found in Calle Crisologo in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. |

Tsalet houses introduces the strong emphasis on the need of proper sanitation inside the house, thus toilets and bathrooms became a common place inside the houses. House planning evolves into a different level to give way for this needs.

However, compared to an apartment and condominium, town houses are a bit spacious. Nowadays, town houses are considered as the starter homes for families whom are not yet prepared to build a bigger houses as it was significantly cheaper regarding of materials and building maintenance. |
